DRAWING FROM THE MUNDANE

This project is a work in progress. For the past year I have been drawing paper bags repeatedly. These drawings, approximately 50 now, are simply made using charcoal on brown paper.

In the summer of 2009 I plan to frame a collection of these drawings and place them in neighborhoods trash heaps within the NYC area. A "certified" letter of authenticity will be attached to the back of the framed work. This letter will remain unsigned and will lead the finder to initiate contact with the maker. My intent is to formally meet the finder, sign their letter of authenticity and a contract enabling me to borrow this work for exhibition purposes only. The finder will be free to keep the framed work.

The exhibition will consist of the framed artworks (not for sale) and the contract signed by both parties, which will be offered for sale. Art is only possible with both a maker and receptor/audience. The valuable part of my work will be the agreement between the maker and the finder enabling the pieces found "in the garbage" to become an artistic/aesthetic creation.
